Freeholder

A freeholder is a person or a company that owns the freehold of a property and the land it resides upon.

For example, a freeholder would own a block of apartments and the land on which they sit, but a leaseholder would own an apartment inside the property on a lease for a fixed length of time. Therefore, even though the leaseholder owns the flat, the freeholder will own the whole property outright and be responsible for maintaining the building and land.
