Mortgage

A mortgage is a loan borrowed from a lender to buy a property or a piece of land. The loan is secured against the value of the property until it's paid off. If you default on your payments, this gives the lender the right to repossess the property to reclaim their lost money.

Typically a mortgage is the first charge on a property while bridging loans are usually the second charge.
